Attention—RSR Needs Your Help! At this point, only ten days before the event, we are still short on volunteers for the upcoming Hankerd Road clean up. Summer vacations seem to be taking many of our regular crew out of town this time. We need an additional 5 volunteers to make this manageable. If you can join us please let me know at first opportunity. Event particulars follow below. Rally Sport’s mid-season clean-up of trash/debris along Hankerd Road will take place on Sunday, July 20th. Consensus among the regular team was to schedule this for Sunday rather than the usual Saturday due to previously scheduled activities (i.e. Cars & Coffee, The Gathering) that take place on Saturday the 19th. Here are the details: When: Sunday July 20th ; 9:30 AM, volunteer briefing; 9:40, depart for clean-up site. Where: Parking lot behind Hell Saloon, 4095 Patterson Lake Rd, Pinckney, MI 48169. Parking along Hankerd Road is limited, and we will consolidate into two (or four) vehicles for the drive to the clean-up site. What happens: One group starts at the north end of Hankerd Road at the Glen Brook Road junction, picking up trash/debris while moving southward towards North Territorial Road. The second group will drive to the North Territorial Road junction, make a U-turn, and head northward, cleaning the opposite side of the road. There are two miles of road in each direction. If we have a sufficient number of volunteers, as we did in April, we’ll split into four groups, dividing each side of Hankerd into two 1-mile stretches. We should finish in 2 hours, possibly less, and will return to Hell Saloon for lunch. Participant waivers: If you previously signed an indemnity form for the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners, you are eligible for this and all future clean ups. If you want to participate and have not yet completed this form, please email me at dennisa2@icloud.com and I will forward one to you. Simply complete and sign it, and email a scanned copy back to me ASAP, so it can be filed with WCRC before the event. In addition, PCA National requires all event participants to sign an individual waiver. That can be done online using this Speed Waiver link: https://rsppca.speedwaiver.
If you are unable to use Speed Waiver, there will be a paper waiver for you to sign at the briefing. Essentials: Dress appropriately for warm, summer weather with suitable shoes for walking along the road shoulder and right-of-way. Long trousers and shirt sleeves are recommended for insect protection, as is insect repellant. Also, bring your favorite “trash picker” tool, along with protective gloves. WCRC provides special orange trash bags along with the mandatory safety vests. Vests for all participants will be distributed at the briefing. Also, if you have not done so, please take a few minutes and view WCRC’s Safety Guidelines Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch? Final notes: If you plan to participate and have not responded to any earlier emails, PLEASE email (dennisa2@icloud.com ) or text me (734-834-5521) to confirm so we know how many to expect.
